Toronto Fan Expo Aug 2008.
Once again...Amidst the chaos of collectors, comic book fans and costumers was the Universal Designs display booth. As previous years have shown, Universal Designs is fortunate to have loyal groups of fans that seek out their latest works and look for an opportunity to be photographed alongside these larger than life 'pop culture' iconic displays. The traffic seen by fans alike was astounding, discussions with possible and confirmed new clients was at an all time high and interviews by different media groups was a constant ....So much so that there was no down time for any of the Universal Designs team to take random photos of the Fan Expo weekend. Fortunately, some of the media coverage did that for us.

Sculpting at the 2007 IMATS in Pasadena, CA. for Chavant
Universal Designs is a proud user of Chavant products and in 2007 David was delighted to be the 'on sight' sculptor for the Chavant booth at the International Make Up Artist Trade show in Pasadena, California. While sculpting in their booth, David would also do 'mini demos' allowing interested parties to try their hand on the sculpture he himself was working on. Many attendees enjoyed being able to 'test drive' the product this way and thus being able to make educated decisions as to what Chavant product best suited their skill level. While Chavant is an industry leader, those being introduced to their products for the first time found this 'hands on' approach very comforting. The 2 day show was full of excitement and the Chavant booth really does command quite a following. David greatly enjoyed his experience with Chavant and has said on several occasions what an honor this was for him. |

Universal Designs First Annual Prop Party
2007 would also be the year of 'getting to meet the friends and fans' as Universal Designs hosts their first annual prop party in Toronto. Collectors, fans and friends traveled from all over North America to proudly display their own prop and costume collections. David's signature tagline of "as children we dreamed..." was further solidified as everyone there showed off their items of interest and passion for collecting. Coincidentally enough, most everyone had childhood memories of one day owning just those same props. Interests and collections ranged from costumes and props to detailed scale statue sculpting. Also present were working remote controlled 'R2' units and well established high-realism and/or make-up artists. The turnout also showcased different Independant Films in various stages of development. All and all, the prop party was quite the success. Keep checking back for the 2008 Universal Designs Prop Party details. |

Police Week Open House
While the Open House was celebrated over several days, Universal Designs was asked to make a special appearance on 'kids day' during Police Week Open House. Children stared in awe as comic book personalities came to life and stood side by side with the 'true' real life heroes...the Police Officers. Fun and excitement for young and old alike, but it's quite possible that some of the Officers that day had the most fun...... |
